The KAHI Multi Balm and Eye Balm, the two balm sticks tested in Seoul, beside their boxes

Tested in Seoul

Inside the Seoul lab: the proof behind every swipe

64 women, three studies, one question: does it really work? Here is how our balms were tested in Seoul, and every result in full.

  • 3 clinical studies
  • 64 women tested
  • No skin reactions recorded

How the studies work

Measured with instruments, not just by eye

Each study followed the same pattern: measure the skin before use, apply the balm, then measure again.

  • Skin research institutes in Seoul

Ace Skin Clinical Research Institute ran both Multi Balm studies, with a dermatologist as co-investigator. The Eye Balm study at P&K Skin Research Center was led by a professor of dermatology.

  • Ethics approval

Both Multi Balm studies were approved by an institutional review board (IRB) and followed ICH good clinical practice and the Declaration of Helsinki.

  • Measured, not guessed

Antera 3D imaging measured lines and texture, an Epsilon sensor measured hydration, a Cutometer measured firmness and a gloss meter measured glow.

  • Real women, real skin

64 women aged 29 to 69 took part. Their skin was checked for reactions during each study, and none were recorded.

The results

Every result, as measured

Averages across all the women in each study. Most figures compare each woman's skin before and after use; make-up grip compares skin with and without the balm. Individual results vary.

Good to know

Questions about the studies

Does a Korean multi balm really work?

The KAHI Multi Balm has been tested, not just promised. In two ethics-approved studies in Seoul, skin hydration rose 410% straight after one use, and eye-area lines looked 39% smoother after 4 weeks, measured with 3D skin imaging. These are averages, and results vary from person to person.

Who took part in the studies?

64 women in total. The two Multi Balm studies had 23 and 20 women aged 51 to 69, with an average age of 59. The Eye Balm study had 21 women aged 29 to 59, with an average age of just under 49.

Who ran the studies?

Ace Skin Clinical Research Institute in Seoul ran both Multi Balm studies, with a dermatologist as co-investigator. The Eye Balm study was run at P&K Skin Research Center in Seoul and led by a professor of dermatology.

What does IRB-approved mean?

An institutional review board (IRB) is an ethics committee that checks a study's design and the safety of the people taking part before it starts. Both Multi Balm studies were approved by one.

Were there any skin reactions?

No. None of the 64 women had a skin reaction in any of the three studies. As with any new product, try it on a small patch of skin first, and stop using it if irritation occurs.

Are there before-and-after photos?

The reports include clinical photographs, but they belong to the research institutes and the women who took part. We will only show them with permission, and never retouched.
